Jaipur is 260 km from Delhi and 240 km from Agra and forms the most chosen tourism golden triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. It a bustling capital city and a business centre with all the trapping of modern metropolis but yet flavored strongly with an age-old charm that never fails to surprise a traveler. The old Jaipur painted in Pink can grip any visitor with admiration. Jaipur is also known as the “Pink city” with beautifully constructed palaces, havelis and forts — many in Pink color. Those are chandpol, Sanganeri and Ajmeri.

Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan and was built in the eighteenth century by Sawai Jai Singh as India’s first planned city. Jaipur is named after its founder the warrior and astronomer sovereign Sawai Jai Singh II (ruled 1688 to 1744). The decision to move out of his hilltop capital Amer was also compelled by reasons of growing population and paucity of water. Jaipur is one of the most traditional places of India. Jaipur includes a number of heritage hotels. The city of Jaipur is surrounded by the districts of Alwar and Sikar to the north, Sawai and Tonk to the south, Nagaur to the west and Dausa to the east.

Jaipur is a corroborative effort of Sawai Jai Singh’s strong grounding in sciences and astrology and a Bengali architect Vidyadhar with a strong instinct for planning. The roads and by-lanes are laid out in a grid pattern, which makes orientation easy — its not a common set-up in India. The new part of the town is also very well laid out.

Although Jaipur serves mainly as a stepping stone for travelers heading to the desert cities of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, it has its own attractions, like several forts, museums, jewelry, and handicrafts that come from across the state. In addition, Rajasthan is well known for a range of tasty and spicy foods.
Jaipur is world famous for its Gems and Jewellery business. Jaipur is also famous for the precious and semi-precious stones like, diamond, topaz, etc. The jewelers in Jaipur deal in all of them.

Jaipur is considered as one of the best planned cities. Almost all Northern Indian towns of that period presented a chaotic picture of narrow twisting lanes, a confusion of run-down forts /temples /palaces and temporary shacks that bore no resemblance at all to the principles set out in Hindu architectural manuals, which calls for strict geometric planning.

Jaipur is a city of architectural harmony - it was built in the 18th century as India’s first planned city - on a dry lake, surrounded by barren hills. Despite the chaos and dust, Jaipur is a colorful city which definitely is worth pausing in for several days.
